Running in Water The Wild Rivers 5 K

August 27th

After about 3 hours of sleep the night before I got up and headed down to Wild Rivers for a fun 5K where I wasn't going to worry to much about my final time.  (because there was a section of the run that went through water).     There was also a few missed picture ops  (since I was running through water I didn't take the camera).   A guy in a dog costume that represented some running shoe company (that kicked every one's butt).  And a guy in a Cow outfit (OMG how could he even  Mooooove).     There was also a guy in a Mexican Wrestler outfit.     The run apparently supported some program for deaf kids in Mexico (go figure)  since before the race some deaf minister from Mexico got up to do a short sermon that no one could understand that had bad jokes and where he thanked  Wild Water?   There was also an interesting botched National Anthem by some church singer.

The race itself was okay.    I was around  14.25 at my 2 mile split on a course that mostly was outside the park on a hot and humid morning....  Then we got to run in the floatie river.  After spending most of the second mile being passed by people I was able to surge back ahead of some folks in the water portion of the course....Although once I excited I learned a good lesson if I every do this run again......WHERE swimtrunks..    When I exited the water portio completed soaked from head to toe  I had to hold my shorts up for the final 400 yards of the race.  (an interesting running style indeed).   The water portion added several minutes to my time.  Still it was a fun run.

Getting a little Wet and Wild this weekend

I'm not talking about some wild spring break wet-t-shirt  contest.....I'm talking about a fun little 5K this coming Saturday at Wild Rivers ----where the last portion of the run is in the floatie river.....I can't wait to get all wet at the end of my run.   If you like to run and get wet  you should come on down and give it a try.   I figured it sounded like a great little 5K to end the summer with.

Breaking Barriers

Ready for Tiki Oasis at 189 lbs

Breaking barriers---Time to get out of the comfort zone.....
I was working out and making great progress---but all my runs were around 3.3 Miles on a normal day and  4 Miles on my hill day.    I was comfortable with that......Too comfortable ....

A friend of mine was doing longer runs and one week after a good run I decided to do a longer run with him.   6 Miles---and it felt good ....Then did another run with another friend  around 7 miles.
I wasn't feeling too bad after these runs.....Why hadn't I been doing this all along....
It was time to get out of my comfort zone.....  I started stretching some of my runs a little further.....
My short run became a 4.4 mile run.....My longer run became a 6 mile run.

I through out a challenge to myself and with my 2 friends did an 8 mile beach run....which felt great.
I had been stuck in this mental comfort zone for a really long time......Somehow I broke through that mental barrier and kicked it up a notch ----and the calories really started to come off......Why I mentally held myself back for so long?   Who knows?     By extending my runs I got out of my comfort zone and  put HE FAT deeper in his grave.....That fool has been cremated......

8 Miles tomorrow!  No Problem

Challenge completed....Piece of CAKE

That was surprisingly a piece of CAKE!........13 Miles this morning with no issues.   Drink a tiki mug full of water before the run and took a small Gatorade with me on the second half of the run.
Weighed in at a new POST HE FAT era low of 189 after the run....(I realize a lot of that is probably water weight but still)  256 to  189  is pretty  good.    I thought it would be more of a challenge since my longest runs have been around 6 miles but it ended up not being that hard at all.  I finished and still had energy at the end of the day.....And that piece of Cheesecake tasted so good!

BurgerTime!!!! NOT SO MUCH

One of my biggest downfalls in staying in good shape was this.....Oh no not playing the thrilling fun game Burgertime for intellivision.....Running around dropping Pickles and Eggs and Wieners to their doom while making delicious burgers.    No it was the Supersize effect.      It was just so easy to drive through and grab a Burger Fries and coke value meal.....(Literally all the time).   And changing my eating habits in an attempt to kill HE FAT was something  (being a stubborn person) that I didn't want to do.   But eventually I did......(Not without a fight)  I was basically running around complaining and figuratively throwing salt at Kim straight out of the video game when it came to changing my eating habits.
I eventually did to a certain degree (which can still be argued about)  --I cut back on the value meals (although I will never give up Burgers altogether---that would be Un-American).    I just can't do it all the time.  Cutting out unnecessary French Fries all the time and making a burger a special treat instead of a daily need was a big step in the death of HE FAT.    I used to get a Sourdough Jack Combo  twice a week.    After seeing the calories about a year and a half ago I haven't had one since.

So Burgertime!   NOT SO MUCH!
Beware of Burgertime!  The food is trying to make Hamburger out of you
