May 27th Excercise Stats

6.4 Mile Run   1 Mile Swim......Feeling great.....

Getting started wasn't easy ( A Runner's Past) The Road to Killing HE FAT

Getting started was not easy.....The road to killing He Fat was a long road......More like an obstacle course....Exercising regularly can be a series of mental and emotional hurdles.
One of the biggest hurdles was  trying not to dwell on the past.....since what I used to be able to do became a big hurdle to where I was now.......Constantly taunting me and pointing at me .......HE FATing me....
I had to get past that and it took awhile.  The journey had already begun before the HE FAT incident. But wouldn't finally become a mission until almost a year later when I would Run (air quotes)   my first 5K in years

The PAST
A little back story.....I used to run....
(Jr High  9 grade finals ----taking a large  lead in the 1 mile run )
X-Country and Track and did pretty well  (Despite my version of pre-run stretching being to have a Pepsi from the Soda machine--- I guess bad habits start early).     Now much older and out of shape after being He-Fated by a little kid -getting that guy back was not easy at all.   One of the big hurdles  was battling constantly what I used to be able to do.   (Because I couldn't do that anymore)...I had tried over the years to start running again and it  usually lasted for about 3 weeks before laziness set back in again or I caught a cold that would last a month  and I went straight to the couch when I got home again instead of on a run...
This time it would finally be different...He Fat had to die.....

I think it would be easier if you had never run before to start running for exercise than having this past haunt every single step I took at the start....Back in High School I once ran a 4:36 mile  and in X-country  which is basically a 5K  my best time at the Griffith Park invitational was  15:39.    That is a big mental barrier  because now with every step I was comparing and mentally beating myself up over where I was now compared to back then......

I will continue with my daily exercise stats later in the day.....and next week I will start to chronicle the successful Journey that was the Death of He Fat....

My current state of being and mind set (May 25th 2011)

Feeling so good and fit now......Ran 4.6 mile beach run and 1 mile swim this morning.
I feel great when I wake up in the morning.   And I feel so good  especially after my swims.
And 4.4 miles in the evening

Don't get me wrong eating right  (or at least better is still a constant struggle)   I've got quite possibly the worst sweet tooth in the entire world......(I should probably have it removed some day).
But with the help of my beautiful wife I've accomplished so much since I was He-Fat-ed in that story I told.

Today I passed  250 miles running since my birthday on Feb 12th of this year......of  that I'm titling
Fitter by 41   (A Play on my Fit by 40 slogan from last year)    I like to give dramatic titles to everything I do.      From He Fat to He Fit:   The slow painful death of He Fat.....

I will use this blog for a couple of purposes........1.  to log what I'm doing now (for myself)  a record for me to keep track of my continued self improvement   and  2.  to tell my story.......I don't have a diet ......I don't count calories......(except what I burn  --which I argue about with my wife when I regularly beg for dessert late at night)

It is a constant struggle.......But I'm really happy about the results and excited going forward feeling as good as I'm feeling today....    Next week I'll tell the story of how I got started.....

"HE FAT" The Story-- How is started in back in 2008

OK so I'm been trying to lose some of the extra poundage ---I've been hitting the pool like a madmen (Or a Fat slow Michael Phelps) logging over 25 miles in the pool since I started and throwing in an occasional beach run on top of that (Oh I still eat like crap—but I've cut back on the sodas --which I used to drink like it was the elixir of eternal life---I've lost about 10 pounds so that is progress….and I'm starting to feel the progress as well---So the "HE FAT" story was like a punch in the still flabby gut……..The setting Buca De Becco the date July 27th The occasion Danny's wife's B-day……After a week of slacking off on my Gung Ho style exercise plan (due to a cold earlier in the week and Comic con—I know Excuses --Excuses) Well at the dinner Danny was talking to this kid (I don't know someone else at the tables kid) and somehow the conversation turned into a setup for the now infamous line… A great weekend of 2 days at Comic Con—followed by meeting some old Friends that moved up North at Disneyland earlier in the day ended with a thud…….Danny's conversation lead to asking the kid at some point "Are you calling me Fat?" ---the kid matter of factly just smiled (A smile now burned into my memory) and pointed at me and said "HE FAT"…..(Lovely what a way to ruin an evening)…."HE FAT" thanks kid…. Of course kids don't know any better…But it was just such a shock----I don't want to be a "HE FAT" --I was totally destroyed by this…. So back tearing up the waters again –I'm going to make sure "HE FAT" dies.. Luckily the devastation that the moment was (replayed in my memory is slow motion ----Point ……Smile……..HEEEE FATTTT) I quickly recovered and have sense turned this into a sure fire laugh …For when I told Eric a week later (sense he was at the other end of the table at dinner that fateful night) ---he paused and then broke out laughing …..So now all I have to say is "HE FAT" in a childlike voice and Eric starts to giggle uncontrollably…. And it has grow into a saying….So if you are somewhere and hear "HE FAT" you know the story behind it….
